We’re excited to share some big news: Jarvis Canada is heading to IFFA 2025! If you haven’t heard of it, IFFA (short for “Internationale Fleischwirtschaftliche Fachausstellung”)—quite a mouthful—is the world’s leading trade fair for meat and alternative proteins. Every three years, thousands of professionals gather in Frankfurt, Germany, to see the latest and greatest in food technology—from cutting-edge robotics to sustainable packaging solutions. We can’t wait to bring our Canadian pride to this global stage and show everyone what Jarvis is all about!

Why IFFA Matters: A Global Stage for Innovation
IFFA isn’t just another trade fair—it’s a global phenomenon! Founded in 1949 in post-war Germany as a humble butchers’ exhibition, it has transformed into a massive showcase for advanced meat processing and alternative protein technologies. We’re talking about a place where industry leaders from over 140 countries unite to share breakthrough trends and shape the future of the protein sector.
Every three years, these experts converge at Messe Frankfurt to explore everything from automation and sustainability to plant-based burgers and cultured meat! In 2019 alone, nearly 67,000 visitors attended, which truly shows IFFA’s unparalleled global reach. It’s a high-energy environment where fresh ideas spark business deals, and cutting-edge machinery—sometimes powered by AI—steals the spotlight. We love seeing this thrilling peek into the future of safer, greener, and more efficient food production!
Jarvis Canada: Proudly Supporting the Canadian Meat Industry Since 1963
Right here in Canada, Jarvis Industries Canada Ltd. has proudly served meat processors for over 60 years. Established in Calgary back in 1963, we're one of Jarvis’s oldest international subsidiaries. We’ve consistently provided top-notch support, innovative tools, and exceptional customer service tailored specifically to Canadian processors.
Beyond supplying equipment, Jarvis Canada offers unique, value-added services. For instance, did you know we repair protective chainmail gloves and aprons used by meat plant workers? It's all part of our commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.

Jarvis: Over a Century of Innovation
At Jarvis Canada, we've proudly served the Canadian meat industry since 1963—but our story actually begins much earlier, over a century ago, in 1901 Connecticut. Believe it or not, our founder, Charles L. Jarvis, got his start making humble household tools like nutcrackers and nutpicks! But innovation has always been our DNA, and by the 1950s, we had made a bold pivot into meat processing technology. One groundbreaking product was our revolutionary pneumatic hide-removal knife, which transformed the way cattle hides were separated, improving speed and dramatically reducing damage.
Our passion for humane, efficient processing drove even bigger innovations: from pioneering electric stunning methods for halal slaughter in the 1980s to developing the world's first pneumatic captive-bolt stunner specifically designed for high-speed beef processing in 2003. Today, we haven't slowed down one bit—our advanced robotics systems, like the JLR-900 pork-splitting robot (capable of handling an incredible 900 carcasses per hour!), continue to set industry benchmarks.
From crafting simple nutcrackers to engineering sophisticated robotic butchers, Jarvis's journey embodies a relentless drive for excellence. We're proud of our heritage, excited about the technology we're bringing to meat processing today, and eager to keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible—both here in Canada and around the globe!
It all began in the 1950s, when we replaced brutal hammer blows with a pioneering pneumatic device to usher in humane slaughter. Today, the Model USSS-21 continues that legacy—faster, lighter, and more efficient than ever—upholding Jarvis’s unyielding commitment to innovation and animal welfare!
From our very first pneumatic dehider in the 1950s to today’s JC4A, we’ve never stopped perfecting hide removal. This next-gen air-powered tool is lighter, faster, and more precise—carrying forward the legacy that changed the industry forever!
Why Jarvis Canada Is Heading to IFFA 2025
IFFA is huge, and it only happens once every three years, which matches the pace of major technological leaps in our industry. By attending, we can keep our finger on the pulse of new trends—like eco-friendly packaging or advanced food safety measures—so we can bring the latest breakthroughs back home to Canadian processors.
Plus, IFFA is where Jarvis’ global family comes together. Subsidiaries from around the world meet in one place, share insights, and show off new products. We’re proud to be part of that collective powerhouse and can’t wait to introduce everyone to the strengths of Jarvis Canada. As we like to say, “Local commitment meets global reach.” It’s all about synergy!

Why It Matters for Canadian Processors
We believe that everything we learn in Frankfurt ultimately benefits our clients back home. By immersing ourselves in global industry trends, we gain the knowledge to keep Canadian operations up to date. When we see a new automated stunner that improves animal welfare—or a data-driven tool that cuts down on waste—we immediately ask, “How can we get this to Canada?”
In a world where alternative proteins are gaining ground and sustainability is top of mind, staying ahead is more important than ever. Through IFFA, we deepen our understanding of global changes and bring those lessons back to meat processing plants across our nation.
